Multiple Personalities!

I put "Multiple Personalities" as my title because I just want to. Haha. Kidding.

Well, I'm an everyday commuter, and I am taking the jeepney everyday. There are several experiences that occurred in this humble but efficient vehicle, and as I ride the most famous form of transportation here in the Philippines, I come to notice different personalities that are always present in people riding the jeepney, almost everyday. You may not have encountered all these, but surely, you'll notice some.

First, the INDUSTRIOUS ones. These people are always ready to pass the fare, be it per minute, or per second. These people are usually seated near the driver's seat. They pass not only fare, but also, some trash, if the driver opted to put a trash can near his seat. Well, even if you're not the industrious one, you will be converted to one if you're fated to sit near the driver - whether you like it or not. These people will receive a lot of "thank you" from passengers, kudos!

Second, the arch-nemesis of the industrious ones, the LAZY ones. These people are sometimes annoying (if not always) when it comes to riding the jeepney. These people will not move if there is a passenger trying to squeeze in, and will just move if they are told to. They will also not pass on the fare, even if you place your hand right before their eyes. These people will always have eyebrows raised on them.

Third, the LOVERS. These people will do every public displays of affection (PDA), every chance they get. Be it a hug (which will last from start to finish of the trip), a kiss (which they are not even shy to show to others), the "crying shoulder" (in which the girl will fake a sleep just to lay her head on the guy's shoulder, [yeah, fake, because a sleeping person cannot hold his/her head that still if the person really sleeps!]), the tickling whisper (or careless whisper?), and, if the guy is highly suspicious of everyone, you will see his hand hooked on his girl's leg, securing the girl's..? These people don't care about the outside world (or jeepney?), and claims the jeepney for themselves.

Fourth, the MUSIC LOVERS. These people do their responsibilities as passengers, they pass fare, they pay theirs and do not annoy others. These people often have their earphones already set even before they ride the jeepney. Some put theirs as the jeepney is running its engines. What's amazing with them is that their sounds are really loud that you can even hear what they are listening to! And what I do is, I guess the title of the song they are listening to, a very good pastime!

Next, the MUSIC LOVERS, version 2. These people are a hybrid of the "lovers" and the "music lovers". These people always do not care about what people around them. They are music lovers because they love listening to music from their China phones, with the loudspeaker on (yes, the booming loudspeaker, with built-in shattering glass), and a ROCK music playing, in which the lyrics are inaudible because it's really shattered. Encountered one? Buy them earphones.

We have the NEWSCASTERS. These people know almost everything - from world news, national news, other barrrio's news, and their own news. Even the Facebook status of celebrities, they know. That's how efficient they are. They are like your personal radio of all sorts, RSS without internet connection. I personally like listening to these people because you get updated with everyday news, even if you're not able to hear it from the television. What's the downside of listening to them is that sometimes, wrong broadcasts are given.

..well, there's a lot of personalities going on in jeepneys. You may fall on the above catagories, but there are more to come!

I always wonder how these music lovers on the jeepney be able to travel with their big headphones with comfort. I don't think I will do that.

Haha!I like your line about the China phones with the loudspeaker; it is so true. I am really often irritated with those loud music from someone's mobile phone inside public utility vehicles – especially if there three or five of them playing different songs so loud simultaneously.

when all these personalities are possessed by one person, then it's multiple personalities. THis is actually true, read the book entitled Sybill or watch the movie version and you will know what I mean.

I commute a lot and can totally relate to your post. I'm starting to appreciate the advantage of the music lovers coz cutting out the noise pollution makes the travel more relaxing.

The learnings you get from people watching most especially while riding the jeep. Your stuff is one great example.

Great share here about those kind of personalities. I guess, it would be much greater if you add up images or comical images of them.
